Fasting is an obligatory worship for Muslims. However, fasting is also known to have various health benefits if done correctly. One group that needs to be careful when fasting is diabetes sufferers. Fasting is basically safe for diabetics, as long as their blood sugar is well controlled. This article explains various recent studies regarding the benefits of fasting for diabetes mellitus sufferers. Recent research results show that fasting can help reduce blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Apart from that, fasting has also been shown to increase insulin sensitivity in the body. Both of these things are very beneficial for controlling diabetes. Fasting can also help weight loss in obese diabetics. This weight loss also helps improve the body's response to insulin. However, diabetes sufferers still need to consult a doctor before starting fasting. This is important so that medication doses and eating patterns during fasting can be adjusted appropriately. With good preparation, diabetes sufferers can carry out fasting safely and with blessings.
