PERTUNJUKAN LEAK DALAM TARI KUDA LUMPING DI DESA KULIM JAYA KECAMATAN LUBUK BATU JAYA KABUPATEN INDRAGIRI HULU PROVINSI RIAU

Abstract

This study aims to describe the Leak performance in the Kuda Lumping Dance in Kulim Jaya Village, Lubuk Batu Jaya District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. Kuda Lumping Dance is a traditional Javanese performing art that features horse-riding warriors with woven bamboo properties. This performance is unique because it mixes magical and symbolic elements, including the presence of the Leak figure, an evil witch who appears with distinctive movements, properties, and attractive makeup. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with observation, interview, and documentation methods. The results of the study indicate that the Leak performance in the Kuda Lumping Dance in Kulim Jaya Village has a function that is not only entertaining but also has symbolic meaning, reflecting the community's efforts to respect tradition, exorcise evil spirits, and strengthen social solidarity. Dancers and musicians are involved in a dynamic performance with a combination of movements, floor designs, and changes in musical tempo. This study is expected to provide a deeper understanding of traditional performing arts and encourage cultural preservation as an important heritage for future generations.
