Abstract

Islam has a significant impact on various aspects of life, including financial matters. One implementation of Islamic principles in the economy is the Islamic banking system, which has experienced rapid growth. This article explores the savings interest and the decisions of customers in choosing Islamic banks as a means to manage their finances in accordance with Islamic principles. The research employs interview methods with three students from Lambung Mangkurat University who are users of Islamic banks. The findings indicate that culture and family values play a central role in shaping their views on savings and the selection of Islamic banks. They perceive Islamic banks as alternatives that align with the principles of Islam, particularly in avoiding interest-based transactions (riba). Cultural factors and social norms also influence their preferences for Islamic banks. Furthermore, family support and education play a crucial role in shaping their understanding of Sharia economics. Islamic banks are perceived as more supportive of their cultural and family values compared to conventional banks. Products and services that are free from interest, along with a commitment to ethical operation in accordance with religious principles, are key factors in selecting Islamic banks as their financial partners. This research provides valuable insights for Islamic banking in developing more effective marketing strategies and for individuals and families in managing their finances in line with Islamic principles. By understanding the influence of culture and family, Islamic banks can better grasp the needs and preferences of their customers in the context of Islamic economics. In conclusion, culture and family play a significant role in shaping the attitudes and financial behaviors of individuals in the context of Islamic banking.
