Abstract

By utilizing a qualitative methodology and analyzing descriptive data, this article presents a departure from the customary practice of commemorating the odd nights of the final 10 days of Ramadan by the residents of Parit Adam in Sungai Ambawang Kuala Village, Sungai Ambawang District, Kubu Raya Regency. The authors discovered that the tradition of observing the odd nights of the final 10 days of Ramadan is intricately linked to texts, particularly QS. al-Qadr verses 1-5, which focus on seeking and obtaining Lailatul Qadr Night. This endeavor is demonstrated through the selekoran, segemian, and petolekoran traditions. Moreover, the selekoran, segemian, and petolekoran traditions have diverse meanings for the local community. Firstly, these three customs are considered part of an institutionalized amaliah associated with the momentum of Lailatul Qadar, based on QS. al-Qadar about the last ten days of Ramadan. Secondly, the three rituals serve as a way for the community to express gratitude for the opportunity to observe Ramadan. Lastly, the selekoran, segemian, and petolekoran rituals are performed as an attempt to preserve the customs that have been established to date. This article provides a unique insight into the cultural traditions of the people of Parit Adam by deviating from the usual practice of observing the odd nights of the final 10 days of Ramadan.
